In-service training strengthens quality in daycare centers
The city of Darmstadt reports that 20 people are currently completing a part-time professional development program to become specialists in early childhood education. The qualification program was initiated by the city and is aimed at employees in early childhood education facilities.
The training is based on Section 25b, Paragraph 2, Sentence 1, Number 6 of the Hessian Child and Youth Welfare Code. Its aim is to impart fundamental knowledge in the areas of education, care, and upbringing, as well as to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration within the institutions.
Practical training with certification
The course is organized by the Elisabethenstift Pedagogical Academy. The content of the training is based on the Hessian Education and Upbringing Plan. Its central guidelines are addressed and further developed in a practical manner.
This approach takes a holistic view of children, families, educators, and other professional groups involved in education and upbringing. The aim is to strengthen a shared understanding of education and promote collaboration in everyday educational practice.
The course comprises 160 teaching units and is divided into ten modules. The first module is scheduled to start on March 2, 2026, and the certificate presentation is planned for December 8, 2026.
Contribution to combating the shortage of skilled workers
Mayor and Head of Social Services Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the importance of the measure for the educational quality in the 31 municipal daycare centers. The training opens up new perspectives and enables people without traditional early childhood education training, including career changers with relevant professional experience, to contribute their expertise in early childhood education.
In doing so, the city is making an important contribution to securing and further developing early childhood education and to easing the burden in light of the shortage of skilled workers.
