Mayor Hanno Benz: Strengthen safety for residents and expand support for people with addictions
DARMSTADT – In light of recent developments at the entrance to the Herrngarten park, Hanno Benz increased patrols around the "Scentral" drug support center . The goal is a sustainable improvement of the situation on site.
A few days ago, Benz, together with Mayor and Social Affairs Officer Barbara Akdeniz , Public Order Officer Paul Georg Wandrey and Green Spaces Officer Michael Kolmer, participated in a meeting with residents from Frankfurter Straße and the Johannes and Martinsviertel districts.
“Given the current difficult situation, it is important to me to ensure a significant and lasting improvement. We are also in close contact with the state police in this regard,” Benz explained. In discussions with Deputy Police Chief Dirk Fornoff , it was agreed that continuing joint patrols by city and state police, as well as restricting the area where the scene is located, would contribute to calming the situation.
Last year, Benz, together with the then police chief Björn Gutzeit, a 10-point plan to strengthen security in the city center "Safe City Center" emergency program . These measures are continuously reviewed and adjusted.
“Following this, I would like to send a signal together with my colleagues in our city police force: We are strengthening the safety of residents in the adjacent city districts, helping people suffering from addiction and continuously taking action against criminal activities,” emphasized Mayor Benz.
