Mayor Hanno Benz: Strengthen security for residents and expand support for people with addictions
DARMSTADT – In light of the current developments at the Herrngarten entrance, Hanno Benz increased security controls around the drug assistance facility "Scentral ." The goal is to achieve a sustainable improvement in the situation there.
A few days ago, Benz, together with Mayor and Social Affairs Director Barbara Akdeniz , Public Order Director Paul Georg Wandrey and Green Space Director Michael Kolmer, took part in a meeting with residents from Frankfurter Straße as well as the Johannesviertel and Martinsviertel.
"Given the current difficult situation, it is important to me to ensure a significant and lasting improvement. We are also in close contact with the state police in this regard," Benz explained. In discussions with Vice President of Police Dirk Fornoff , they agreed to contribute to calming the situation continuing joint checks by the city and state police and by restricting the area of the scene
Last year, Benz, together with then-Police Chief Björn Gutzeit, a 10-point plan to strengthen security in the city center "Safe City Center" emergency program . These measures are continuously reviewed and adjusted.
"Following on from this, I would like to send a signal with my colleagues in our city police: We are strengthening the security of residents in the neighboring districts, helping people suffering from addiction, and continuously taking action against criminal activities," emphasized Mayor Benz.
