The association's general meeting sets the course for a diverse cultural year
As the association Kultursommer Südhessen e. V. announced in a press release, 2024 was a resounding success with over 250 events throughout the region. At the members' meeting on February 18th, the course was set for the 2025 cultural year – with new formats, a stronger digital presence, and the promotion of regional cultural projects.
Looking back: A diverse cultural program for 2024
The 31st South Hesse Cultural Summer brought an impressive range of events to the region. Highlights included:
- Trommer Summer (Bergstraße district) : Interactive theatre formats for children and families
- GG LOKAL Open-Air Summer (Groß-Gerau district) : Musical diversity from jazz, cabaret and comedy
- Rödermark Jazz Summer (Offenbach district) : Top-class jazz concerts
- Night of Museums (Odenwald district) : Cultural discovery tour with vintage buses
- 50 Years of BBK Darmstadt-South Hesse (Darmstadt) : Anniversary Exhibitions
In addition, innovative projects such as the bicycle cinema in Babenhausen , where viewers operated the film projector using muscle power, and the JUST FOR FUN EXPRESS , a mobile cabaret format that delighted audiences with circus, shadow theatre and comedy, enriched the program.
“The impressive range and high quality of the events demonstrate the enormous importance of the cultural summer in southern Hesse,” said District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas , Chairman of the Cultural Summer Association.
Outlook for 2025: Opening in Rüsselsheim, new formats and digital focus
For 2025 , the South Hesse Cultural Summer announces a number of exciting new features:
- Opening on June 28, 2025 at the Rüsselsheim Film Festival , which will be the focus of the opening weekend for the first time.
- Open studio days on September 27th and 28th, 2025 , where artists from southern Hesse open their studios.
- TheaterNetzwerkSüd meeting on May 8, 2025 at the Bannoser Theater Brensbach , a forum for regional theater professionals.
- Program presentation on May 9, 2025 at the Darmstadt Regional Council.
A special focus will be placed on the digital visibility of the events . Furthermore, cooperation with other Hessian cultural summers will be intensified. Funding for 2025 has already been approved, so artists and cultural professionals will soon receive their notifications.
These plans lay the foundation for a diverse and inspiring cultural year in 2025 .
