Music, theatre, art and participatory activities from June 13th to September 28th
In 2025, the science city of Darmstadt will once again participate in the South Hesse Cultural Summer . From music and theater to art installations and children's programs, visitors can expect a diverse cultural offering – many events are free of charge.
Music and theatre in churches, gardens and neighborhood meeting places
"Night of the Churches" event on Friday, June 13th , from 7 pm to 11:30 pm . Various religious communities will open their doors for services, musical performances, and conversations in a special atmosphere.
On Saturday, June 14th , the Luise Büchner Society summer festival in the Büchner Garden starting at 2:30 pm . The BüchnerBühne Riedstadt will present a musical collage from Georg Büchner's "Leonce and Lena." Also on June 14th (starting at 7:30 pm), the neighborhood garden in the Prinz-Emil-Garten " Backyard Jazzonnette – An Evening of Chansons" with Dennis Wenzel .
Art, sustainability and international perspectives
The Democratic Forest Project will be launched on Tuesday, June 17th, at 6 pm at the Association for International Forest Art . Twenty international artists will explore themes such as sustainability, the environment, and community.
The Dotter concerts on July 5th , as well as on August 23rd, 24th and 26th, offer live musical experiences. Simultaneously, exhibitions at the Backstube art space in Eberstadt to discover contemporary art.
Organ music for connoisseurs and the curious
From July 9th to August 20th, seven organ concerts will take place in St. Paul's Church , followed by the organ weeks from August 23rd to September 21st in St. Ludwig's Church . On September 21st assemble a kit organ themselves in St. Ludwig's Church and thus playfully learn about the instrument.
Young Culture: Workshops and children's theatre
As part of the "Young KUSS" , five projects for children, teenagers, and young adults will take place again in 2025. A highlight is the street art workshop on Saturday, August 23 , at the HEAG-Häuschen youth center , where participants will experiment with graffiti and street art. The resulting works will then be exhibited.
Further dates for young guests:
- June 15, 2 p.m.: Fairy tale theater performance of "The Princess and the Pea" at the Prinz-Emil-Garten neighborhood center
- August 27, 9 & 11 a.m.: “The Lizzylothek” by the Lakritz Theater at the Darmstadt Literature House
- May to September, Sundays: Forest art workshops at the children's construction trailer of the Forest Art Association in cooperation with artists
Closing event with open studios throughout southern Hesse
The South Hesse Cultural Summer 2025 will culminate in the Open Studio Days on September 27th and 28th . Up to 80 studios throughout South Hesse will open their doors to visitors who want to gain insights into artistic processes or become creative themselves.
