Opening at the Rüsselsheim City Theatre with the Rüsselsheim Film Festival and 14 short films
32nd South Hesse Cultural Summer officially opened on June 28th with a satirical short film evening at the Rüsselsheim City Theatre Rüsselsheim Film Festival, 14 short films were presented, characterized by social commentary, humor, and thought-provoking themes – and deliberately highlighting the film sector within the regional cultural landscape.
Dr. Abdelkader Al Ghouz , head of Kultur123 welcomed numerous guests from politics, culture, and institutions. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of cultural events for social cohesion.
The cabaret duo Kabbaratz opened the evening with satirical wit, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from politics and culture. District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas , chairman of the cultural summer festival, compared the festival to a "colorful flower meadow – full of diversity, creativity, and surprises."
Audience award for "Because of Mom"
The audience award went to "Wegen Mama" by Lara Krämer , a sensitive comedy about two sisters and family expectations. Second place went to "BABY-RENNEN," and third place to "Gekünstelte Intelligenz." The 14 short films shown addressed topics such as climate protection, bureaucracy, body image , and artificial intelligence – sometimes subtly, sometimes bitingly.
Over 300 events until the end of September
The South Hesse Cultural Summer 2025 runs until September 28th and offers over 300 events in around 70 towns and municipalities – from theater and music to exhibitions, film, and performance art. Many events are free and open-air , aimed at all generations, and bring culture directly to the region.
