Bridge between Schnampelweg and allotment gardens affected
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, has closed a crossing over the Darmbach stream south of the Vivarium Darmstadt Zoo. The affected bridge is a small one between Schnampelweg and the Lichtwiese allotment gardens.
Damage to the substructure was detected
According to the city, the bridge is severely damaged. The substructure is increasingly crumbling, and holes have already formed in the ground. These could enlarge further, which is why the area has been closed for safety reasons.
The bridge had already been narrowed as a precautionary measure at the beginning of 2023.
Alternative options available
Alternative routes are available for pedestrians in the immediate vicinity.
The Darmbach stream can be crossed via the Schnampelweg path behind the Vivarium Zoo. Another option is at the crossing near the TU-Lichtwiese train station.
