The science city of Darmstadt provides information on pathways to childcare – Mayor Akdeniz emphasizes social importance
Darmstadt. Under the motto "Shaping Diversity – Educating the Future," the City of Darmstadt, , will host its first municipal training fair for early childhood educators on Friday, November 28, 2025. The aim is to attract young people and career changers to work in childcare facilities. The event begins at noon in the Justus Liebig House and will be opened by Mayor Barbara Akdeniz .
“Working with children is one of the most important tasks in our society. With this training fair, we want to show young people how fulfilling and future-proof the profession of early childhood educator is,” said Mayor Akdeniz. “The profession of early childhood educator not only offers secure prospects, but also the opportunity to actively shape our society.”
Exchange with providers, vocational schools and trainees
Darmstadt-based providers of childcare facilities will be participating in the fair , presenting their training and employment opportunities. Trainees two vocational schools for social work will provide information about the structure and content of their training programs. The unions ver.di and GEW will be on hand to answer questions regarding collective bargaining agreements and labor law .
Registration is not required Excused absences from classes have been requested for participating students .
Background: Shortage of skilled workers in childcare
The training fair was initiated and implemented Committee for Childcare and Family strategy paper on addressing the shortage of skilled workers in Darmstadt's childcare facilities, commissioned by the Youth Welfare Committee . The goal is to attract more young people to pedagogical professions in the long term and to ensure the quality of early childhood education.
