SV Darmstadt 98's cup run is over: In the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, the Lilies lost 0-2 (0-1) to SC Freiburg on Wednesday evening . Against the Florian Kohfeldt 's team put up a spirited fight, but ultimately had to concede to the individual quality of the Bundesliga side.
In an intense match from the outset, Darmstadt started from a well-organized defense and relied on quick counter-attacks. Nevertheless, Darmstadt didn't give up and Matej Maglica three excellent chances to pull one back – two headers (76th, 77th) and one long-range shot (78th) – but Müller was equal to the task each time.
In the closing stages, Grifo hit the crossbar with a second penalty (84th minute), before Maglica received a second yellow card shortly before the end (88th minute). Thus, the cup tie ended with Darmstadt playing with ten men – and with a round of 16 exit, a result that, despite the defeat, offers encouragement for the upcoming league matches.
