80 top trainees honored – seven achieve top rankings nationwide
The Darmstadt Rhine-Main-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) honored the 80 best trainees of their year with a ceremony at the darmstadtium. Seven of them even achieved the best results in their respective trades in all of Hesse.
In front of approximately 350 guests, Philipp Haussig, part of the training management team at Merck, praised the impressive achievements: “Your outstanding results are not only proof of bright minds, but also of your enjoyment of training. As future skilled workers, you have laid a great foundation for your career.”
Three “top trainees” with outstanding performance
Among those honored were trainees from 49 different apprenticeship trades who achieved at least 87 out of 100 points. Three graduates stood out in particular:
- Rosa Kaudel from Ober-Ramstadt scored 98 points in her saleswoman training,
- Vincent Villhard from Brombachtal with 98 points as an industrial clerk at Qlar Europe GmbH in Darmstadt,
- Philipp Penzel from Darmstadt achieved 98 points in his training as a machine and plant operator at Hottinger Brüel & Kjaer GmbH.
They also received the "Top Trainee" award.
Wide variety of apprenticeship occupations
Nearly 3,000 trainees have completed their apprenticeships in the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) district. The range of apprenticeships is broad: there are currently around 330 different trades, approximately 250 of which are in the industrial and commercial sectors. "This is an enormous diversity and a crucial advantage of vocational training," emphasized Haussig.
The municipality of Birkenau was awarded the title of "newcomer company" for providing training for the first time and producing a top trainee in Fynn Herker, a specialist in water supply technology.
Strong takeover opportunities
Dr. Marcel Walter, Head of Vocational Training at the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), highlighted the career prospects: “With their vocational training, all doors are open to graduates. They can pursue further education alongside their work or become trainers themselves.” He added that the demand for trainees is high: “The retention rate in 2024 averaged 76 percent, a historic high.”
