Lippmann: "In the event of a conflict, the German armed forces would be dependent on the economy."
The Darmstadt Rhine-Main-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is preparing for potential security policy scenarios. This preparation stems from the German Armed Forces' assessment that Germany could become a central staging area in the event of a NATO Article 5 scenario. Southern Hesse, with its dense motorway network, would be of particular strategic importance in such a scenario.
“In the event of a conflict, the German Armed Forces will be dependent on support from civil society and the business sector,” explains Robert Lippmann , CEO of the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Darmstadt). “To be prepared, the IHK Darmstadt is currently surveying its member companies to determine what kind of support they are generally able to provide.”
Companies will be contacted and asked to complete an industry-specific questionnaire . The results will be incorporated into a nationwide database maintained by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHKs) , which aims to identify the goods and services that can support the armed forces in case of need.
The survey is conducted using encrypted software . Participation is voluntary , and the data is processed securely.
