Readings on contemporary topics and a musical highlight with Tango Transit
The Darmstadt City Church will dedicate its entire cultural program in February 2026 to contemporary literature. Several readings will address current social, political, and international issues. The program will be complemented by a live jazz concert with the trio Tango Transit .
Contemporary literature from diverse perspectives
The literary program kicks off on Saturday, February 14th , with the Krimilust reading "Osthafen" . This format combines crime fiction with social commentary and background discussions, thus offering a broader perspective on the genre.
On Friday, February 20th , Henni Nachtsheim from his novel "All Kidnapping is Difficult" . The author is known for his pointed humor and combines comedic elements with serious undertones in the work.
On Saturday, February 21st , there will be a reading of "The Gift" by Gaea Schoeters . The novel addresses global power relations and European perspectives, combining current political issues with literary intensification.
“Beloved Kabul” as a literary focus
A special highlight will be the reading "Beloved Kabul" on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The book brings together texts by an Afghan women's writing group, documenting the fall of Kabul in August 2021 and life under Taliban rule. The contributions describe personal experiences of loss, fear, and restriction, but also of solidarity and cultural resistance. The texts will be read by women from Darmstadt.
Jazz concert with Tango Transit
on Saturday, February 7 , 2026. The trio combines jazz, tango, minimal music, and groove into a unique sound and is one of the established groups on the European jazz scene.
