CityChurchCulture offers a musical premiere, a memorial concert, and art with AI
The Evangelical City Church of Darmstadt presents a diverse cultural program : spiritual songs, jazz concerts, a new musical by the youth choir, and events commemorating Kristallnacht .
“Our November program showcases the full spectrum of what makes up the city church's cultural offerings,” explain those responsible, Andreas Blauert, Prof. Dr. Ralf Köbler, and Christian Roß . “From spiritual reflection and artistic innovation to social commemoration – the city church remains a vibrant cultural center.”
Opening: Night of Spiritual Songs
The series begins on Friday, November 1st, at 6 p.m. with the event "Night of Spiritual Songs" under the motto "Singing together for healing ." Singing leaders Sonja Gerster, Elisabeth Hafermann, Andreas Kroitzsch, Jutta Weis, and Iris Zeuner invite you to join them for songs from around the world, accompanied by guitar, piano, and violin. Admission is free ; donations will benefit a regional hospice organization .
Earlier that same day, at 11:30 a.m., a Saturday matinee featuring chamber music works by Robert and Clara Schumann place. The Veit Duo – Michael Veit (cello) and Wiltrud Veit (piano) – will bring the two composers into musical dialogue.
Commemorative concert for Kristallnacht
On November 9th at 6 pm, musicians Irith Gabriely (clarinet) and Misty Schaffert (piano) Kristallnacht with a musical memorial evening Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Mieczyslav Vainberg , and Leonard Bernstein .
“A musical commemoration that makes the diversity, depth and expression of Jewish compositional art audible,” said the organizers.
Jazz Highlights: HYPERBLOOM and Pentagonium
The jazz format Live!Jazz offers two special concerts in November:
- November 15, 7:30 p.m.: The quartet HYPERBLOOM with Juliana Saib combines jazz with visual art. Animated live projections create a synesthetic experience between music and image.
- December 7th, 7:30 pm: The Frankfurt Pentagonium (Schlosser-Gäbel Quintet) with musicians from the hr-Bigband plays modern jazz with energy and joy of playing.
Musical premiere: "Shadows of the Past"
A highlight is the premiere of the musical "Shadows of the Past" by the youth choir of the Darmstadt Singing School .
The performances will take place on November 22nd, 23rd, 28th and 29th , at 7:30 pm , in the town church. The musical tells the story of a train journey in post-war Germany – a piece about memory, solidarity and new beginnings.
The libretto is by members of the youth choir , the music by the young composer Luis Richter , multiple prize winner at "Jugend komponiert" (Youth Composes) .
Franca Blauert and Sarah Leiendecker are directing Christian Roß is the musical director .
The project is supported by the Entega Foundation , the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation , the Darmstadt Savings Bank , the EKHN Foundation and the HEAG Friends of Culture .
Art, VR and AI
The artist collective groupV presents the exhibition "Beyond…" October 20th to November 14th , combining classical art with virtual reality and artificial intelligence . Live performances will take place on October 26th and November 2nd , both at 11:30 am .
