Inaugural meeting on April 16th at the Justus Liebig House
The new term of office for the Darmstadt City Council begins on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Mayor Hanno Benz has invited the 71 city councilors to the inaugural meeting at 4 p.m. in the Justus Liebig House.
Significantly altered composition
The result of the local elections of March 15, 2026, is reflected in a changed composition of parliament. In the future, 13 parties and voter groups will be represented.
32 city councilors are members of the body for the first time, while 39 elected officials were re-elected.
Important decisions at the start
In addition to formal resolutions, the agenda includes key personnel decisions. These include the election of the city council chairperson and the appointment of the presidium.
The determination of committee sizes and the election of the honorary magistrate are also planned.

The meeting will be streamed live on the internet and can be accessed via the city's website.
The substantive work of the new legislative period will begin with the next meeting on May 7, 2026.
Prior to the meeting, an ecumenical service will take place at 2:30 pm in the city church of Darmstadt, led by Dean Raimund Wirth and Pastor Matthias Becker.
The new election period also starts at the district level: The Wixhausen local council will meet for the first time on April 22, 2026.
