58 devices from the city administration are going to the German-Ukraine/Moldova Partnership Association.
Darmstadt is supporting educational and administrative projects in Ukraine with a donation of equipment. A total of 58 decommissioned but technically sound laptops and four digital whiteboards were handed over to the German-Ukraine/Moldova Partnership Association (PDUM). The equipment is to be transported to Ukraine as soon as possible and used primarily in the education sector.
The laptops were acquired through the city administration's regular renewal cycles. Before being handed over, they were inspected by the city's IT and school IT department, reset in compliance with data protection regulations, and made technically ready for use. Additional devices from the city's inventory are currently being prepared for later distribution.
Sustainable use of discarded technology
Digitalization officer Holger Klötzner emphasizes the importance of the donation for sustainable resource use and international solidarity.
“Digital infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite for education, administration, and social participation today. By distributing these devices, we are combining international solidarity with the sustainable use of resources. For me, deploying functional devices where they are urgently needed is an expression of sustainability in practice and concrete support,” said Klötzner.
The initiative also reflects the city's commitment to a comprehensive approach to digitalization. In addition to expanding modern IT infrastructure in administration and schools, this also includes sustainable device management.
Deployment at a vocational school in Uzhhorod
The former mayor of Darmstadt and chairman of the association, Jochen Partsch, thanked the city for supporting the project work in the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod.
A project to strengthen vocational training at a vocational school was completed there in 2025. The donated laptops will now be used in training classes for apprentices such as electricians, fitters, auto mechanics, mechatronics engineers, welders, and painters. They will replace outdated devices and support classroom instruction.
The transport will take place together with a truck aid convoy from the association carrying around 20 tons of aid supplies to Uzhhorod.
Further fundraising events planned
The next fundraising event of the association Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova eV will take place on March 7th from 9 am to 12 pm at the depot in Darmstadt-Eberstadt.
This latest handover is intended to further expand the collaboration between the city of Darmstadt and the association. Further equipment donations from the city administration are already in preparation.
