Magistrate decides on comprehensive upgrading as part of the "Social Cohesion" program
In its meeting on March 5, the magistrate of the science city of Darmstadt decided to redesign the green area "in the deep lake". The aim is to create a barrier-free and inclusive open space in the Pallaswiesen and Mornenwegviertel, which combines relaxation, games and sport. The project is financed through the federal-state program "Social Cohesion" .
Game, sports and calm - design in three areas
The new green area is divided into three zones: an area for sports with a football field and calisthenics system , a section for play with water play area and inclusive play equipment as well as an area of calm with lawns, seating and nature experiences . The central component is the "play band" , which linked the different areas with a connecting leisure offer.
Urban development with social focus
"This upgrade is an important signal for socially just urban development," emphasizes Mayor Barbara Akdeniz. People with different needs were integrated into the planning process at an early stage - including children and adolescents. The aim was to realize an inclusive concept that is tailored to the needs of the community.
City Councilor Michael Kolmer adds: "We create a green oasis of relaxation in the middle of the city, which is accessible to all Darmstadt residents - regardless of individual skills."
Promotion and citizen participation
The project is a key project of the integrated urban development concept (ISEK) and is intended to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood in the long term. It is financed from already approved means of the "Social Cohesion" . The comprehensive participation of the population, especially in the events of the summer of 2024, ensured that numerous proposals from the citizens were taken into account.
