The partner city receives urgently needed ultrasound equipment and other materials
As the Darmstadt Clinic and the German-Ukraine/Moldova Partnership Association (PDUM) jointly announce, another aid shipment of medical equipment to Darmstadt's twin city of Uzhhorod has been successfully organized. A full truckload of equipment and relief supplies reached the Ukrainian city and is supporting medical care in clinics and facilities there.
Expanded cooperation for medical support
The Darmstadt Clinic and PDUM have already delivered medical equipment to Ukraine on several occasions in the past. Now, this collaboration has been further intensified. Dr. Jörg Noetzel, Medical Director of the Darmstadt Clinic, and Jochen Partsch, Chairman of PDUM, emphasize the importance of this cooperation in light of the ongoing war of aggression: The aid is intended to reach those who need it most. Discussions with partners in Transcarpathia and Uzhhorod will ensure needs-based distribution.
From ultrasound devices to spare parts warehouses
The current shipment includes, among other things, five mostly functional ultrasound devices that have minor defects and are therefore no longer approved for use in Germany, but can still be used for diagnostic purposes. One defective device was included as a spare parts depot. The selection of the devices was made in close consultation with medical personnel in Uzhhorod.
Dr. Annette Ottinger, senior physician at the Clinic for Radiation Oncology and Radiotherapy and a member of the PDUM board, documented and inspected the equipment before shipment. She received support from Frank Gröger from the hospital's medical technology department.
Uzhhorod as a logistical hub
Due to its location in western Ukraine, Uzhhorod is well-suited as a distribution point for aid supplies. The city is currently less affected by attacks and is providing assistance to many internally displaced persons and wounded from war zones. Consequently, the demand for medical equipment is high.
Thanks from the twin city
Dr. Viktoriya Syno, chairwoman of the Eulennest partnership association in Uzhhorod, thanks the Darmstadt Clinic and PDUM for their renewed support. The delivered equipment – including ultrasound machines and defibrillators – is of great importance for healthcare in Uzhhorod and the Dnipro region. Many devices will be redistributed to support clinics near the front lines.
