Police check 93 passengers – four knives and over 45 grams of hashish seized
As part of the immediate action program "Safe City Center," the 1st Police Precinct, together with the Darmstadt City Police, the riot police, and the criminal investigation department, conducted extensive checks in the Friedensplatz area on Tuesday (March 18). The aim was to monitor compliance with the new knife and weapons ban zone on public transportation.
Eight buses and two trams were checked
Between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and again between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., a total of eight buses and two trams were stopped. Officers checked the identities of 93 passengers. Three folding knives and one pocket knife confiscated. Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against the individuals involved.
Over 45 grams of hashish seized
Police found 49 individually wrapped portions of hashish, weighing over 45 grams in total, on an 18-year-old passenger from Groß-Zimmern. The young man was taken into custody and transported to the police station for further questioning. There, the criminal investigation department filed charges. As part of the investigation, the man's apartment was also searched, and an additional 16 grams of hashish were seized.
Positive reactions from the population
The police received positive feedback: Many citizens welcomed the increased presence and praised the measures to improve public safety. Police and the city of Darmstadt announced they would continue the checks to sustainably improve both objective and subjective safety on public transport.
