The Green Party's lead candidates see a mandate to form a government
The Darmstadt Greens view the result as a clear signal from the voters. Lead candidate Eva Bredow-Cordier stated:
"The people of Darmstadt have once again placed great trust in the Greens. With a lead of around seven percent, we have become the strongest party. This is a clear mandate to continue shaping Darmstadt into a socially, ecologically and economically strong city."
At the same time, she emphasized that a stable majority in the city council would only be possible with the participation of the Greens. Therefore, after the official final results are announced, the party intends to hold talks with all democratic parties and voter associations about possible cooperation.
Analysis of the election results announced
Heiko Depner, also put the result into perspective. While the Greens had achieved a strong result in Darmstadt, it was also noticeable that the party had lost votes in some other Hessian cities.
“Even though state and federal trends are partly reflected in local elections, we will analyze the results very closely in the coming days and weeks,” Depner explained. The goal remains to convince even more people of the merits of Green policies at the local level.
The final official results of the local elections are expected after all the counting has been completed.
