More births, more weddings, and heavily used online services
The registry office of the science city of Darmstadt looks back on an eventful year in 2025. A total of 4,140 births , 2,468 deaths , and 933 marriages registered. City Councillor Paul Georg Wandrey particularly commended the increase in marriages and the high acceptance of the registry office's digital services.
Birth rates remain at a high level
In 2025, 4,140 births registered at the Darmstadt registry office. Of these, 1,392 mothers were residents of Darmstadt . This continues the positive trend of recent years (2023: 4,100 births).
The most popular first names for girls were Emma (30) , Emilia (25) , and Mila (23) . For boys Leo and Noah (both 30), followed by Adam (24) and Liam (21) .
City Councillor Wandrey sees this as confirmation of earlier predictions: Darmstadt, with its two maternity clinics, continues to attract many expectant parents from the surrounding area.
Increase in registered deaths
At the same time, the number of registered deaths rose to 2,468 (2024: 2,306). This development is in line with demographic expectations and demonstrates the increasing importance of civil registry services in all phases of life.
Significant increase in marriages
The number of weddings developed particularly well: 933 couples said "I do" in Darmstadt in 2025. This is significantly more than in previous years (2024: 882; 2023: 785).
The most popular wedding venue remained the Wedding Tower on the Mathildenhöhe with 513 marriages , followed by Dianaburg (64 weddings). Other weddings took place at Kranichstein Hunting Lodge , the district administration offices in Eberstadt and Wixhausen , and, for the first time, at the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor of 20 same-sex marriages were performed in 2025.
Wandrey attributes the increase to the high flexibility of the registrars and the attractive wedding venues. He also anticipates continued high interest in 2026.
Digital offerings are in high demand
The results for online services were also very positive. More than 95 percent of all civil status certificates were applied for digitally via the online certificate portal in 2025. The online calendar for booking wedding dates, , continues to be used extensively.
