Gerhard Abendschein succeeds Ursula Schwarz – commitment to participation and co-determination
Darmstadt. The advocacy group for senior citizens in the city of Darmstadt stepped down , Ursula Schwarz from the leadership team. The election took place during the general assembly.

He previously served as deputy member of the board and is also involved in the support association and the senior citizens' lunch program in Kranichsteinwas newly elected as deputy chairwoman Gabriele Beckers, from the Green Party list . The two secretaries remain Rainer Kumme (CDU) and Dr. Dierk Molter (FDP), who will support the new board in its work.
Advocacy for the needs of senior citizens
"Especially at the local level, it is important that older people can have a say and participate in shaping policy," emphasized the new chairman, Gerhard Abendschein, after the election. "Over the next two years, we want to ensure that the needs of older citizens in Darmstadt are heard and taken into account – be it regarding mobility issues, opportunities for social interaction, or everyday care."
The advocacy group sees itself as a link between older people and the city administration. It brings concerns into municipal decision-making processes, promotes exchange, and works together with local partners on projects for an active and self-determined life in old age in Darmstadt.
