Open Day opens season with anniversary program
To kick off the new season, "Is this real?", the Darmstadt State Theatre invites you to a festival week from September 28 to October 5, 2025. Visitors can expect a diverse program including opera, drama, dance, and special events.
Kick-off with an open house
The festival week kicks off on Sunday, September 28, with the popular open house (12–6 pm). Guests can go behind the scenes of the four-genre theater, tour workshops and rehearsal rooms, and see actors, musicians, and dancers at work. Hands-on activities, face painting, a costume sale, and a cake buffet round out the offerings. In the evening, Mozart's "Don Giovanni" in the main auditorium – for the theater day price of €9.
Program highlights of the week
The festival week showcases the artistic breadth of the theater. The dance piece "BAU!" (September 30/October 1) will be performed for children aged 8 to 11. On October 1, the world premiere of "Interstellar: Between the Stars" in the Kammerspiele, followed in the evening by the "Lauschangriff" in the theater bar.
On October 2nd, Georg Büchner's novella "Lenz" "Aida" will premiere in the main auditorium, while simultaneously Eugene O'Neill's play "Desire: Greed Under the Elms" will be shown in the smaller theater.
The season concludes on October 5th with a performance of Rossini's opera buffa "Cinderella (La Cenerentola)" in the main auditorium. Simultaneously, the Kammerspiele presents the stage adaptation of Jane Austen's classic "Pride and Prejudice ," directed by Anna Malena Große.
