Free holiday program for families from July 11th to August 8th at the Carree
Just in time for the Hessian summer holidays, the square in Darmstadt's city center will once again be transformed into a large water playground for children. From July 11th to August 8th, 2026, the Darmstadt water playground invites visitors to play, explore, and cool off daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Water fun right in the city center
In the square in front of the central station, water basins, channels, pumps, and buckets are ready. Children, especially those up to about ten years old, can use this space to pump and divert water, or to launch their own boats.
The initiative offers families a free leisure activity in the heart of the city center during the first weeks of the summer holidays. The offer is complemented by the surrounding outdoor dining options and additional seating.

Offer for families during the summer holidays
“With the multi-week water playground, we want to create a targeted offer for families again during the summer months,” explains Citymarketing Chairman Moritz Koch.
The water playground is presented by Volksbank Kinderzeit, a subsidiary of Volksbank Darmstadt Mainz. "We are happy to support the water playground as an attractive destination for families," says Stefan Krüger, Head of Social Engagement at Volksbank Darmstadt Mainz.

Proven concept for children
The mobile water play unit used is a portable water playground originally developed by a company from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The concept has been successfully used in daycare centers and at events for many years. The system is TÜV-certified and design-protected.
The Darmstadt water playground is organized by Darmstadt Citymarketing. The project is supported by Volksbank Darmstadt Mainz, Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt Marketing GmbH, the advertising association of the Carree shopping center, and the family magazine FRATZ as media partner.
