Second session at the HoffART Theater shows the commitment of young people
The second meeting of the Darmstadt Youth Plenum took place at the HoffART Theater at the end of February. For the first time, the event was planned and carried out entirely by the young people themselves. The participants began by reporting on events they had attended since the inaugural meeting in November 2025.
These activities included the city's New Year's reception, a political orientation event for the local elections, and a visit to the Darmstadt city council. At these events, the young people had the opportunity to talk to local politicians and gain insights into political decision-making processes.
Working groups develop new projects
Later in the meeting, various working groups presented their ideas and planned projects. Discussions included approaches to strengthening the mental health of young people and proposals for new services that could fill existing gaps in support for young people in Darmstadt.
The Social Media working group is also working on a separate logo for the Youth Plenum.
Rules of procedure adopted
A key point of the meeting was the adoption of the rules of procedure for the youth plenary. The young people discussed the individual regulations, proposed their own amendments, and ultimately adopted the binding principles for their future work.
"The proceedings of the meeting impressively demonstrate how young people learn democratic processes in practice and support each other in this process," explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz. She is pleased that the youth assembly is increasingly being recognized as a voice for young people in Darmstadt.
Support from the coordination office
The youth plenary is accompanied by the city's coordination office for children and youth participation. This office supports the young people with organizational matters and in the implementation of their ideas and projects.
The third plenary session of the Youth Plenum is planned for the end of May.
