City will set up one -sided stopping ban from the end of May - the measure should protect pedestrians and have emergency vehicles passed
The science city of Darmstadt plans to set up a one -sided stopping ban on Darmstrasse between Wiener Straße and Gervinusstraße from Monday, May 26th. The aim is to sustainably improve the situation on sidewalks and the road.
"Illegal sidewalk parking is common practice in many places and is an unreasonable restriction, especially for pedestrians, parents with strollers or people in a wheelchair," says Order and Transport Director Paul Georg Wandrey. Rescue workers, the fire brigade and the EAD are also affected by the roads parked in operations if the prescribed residual lane width of 3.05 meters is not observed.
The city is now reacting with a reorganization of the parking space: In the section between Wiener Strasse and Gervinusstrasse, an absolute stopping is set up on the north side. In future, the ban will apply on the south side between Gervinusstraße and Beckstraße.
"I am continuously committed to maintaining parking space - but only if all interests are weighed fairly and walking is not disadvantaged. Barrier -free mobility is essential for good cooperation in the street," Wandrey continues. The new stopping ban is part of a comprehensive approach for more traffic safety and mobility justice in Darmstadt.
