Discover wild plants and experience biodiversity in the city - participation campaign for everyone
On the occasion of the day of biological diversity on Thursday, May 22, 2025 , the science city of Darmstadt takes part in the nationwide #krautschau . The aim is to draw attention global extinction variety of plants in the city .
Participate, observe, protect - on a discovery tour through Darmstadt
From 4 p.m. , several guided walks start in Darmstadt, in which experts from the environmental office , the federal government , the NABU and the Volkshochschule Darmstadt track up and determine together with interested wild plants in the city. Small plants in the cracks in the wall, between paving stones or on green areas are the focus. The campaign ends around 6 p.m. at Schlossgartenplatz .
At the same time, the natural show garden on Schlossgartenplatz open throughout. determine plants , signs and seeds from 4 p.m. Spontaneous participation is also possible. Finally, there is an exchange for drinks and snacks .
Make natural diversity visible in the middle of the city
Environmental director Michael Kolmer emphasizes:
"The campaign lives from participating. It is a great opportunity to discover the hidden diversity of the city nature and to raise awareness of the value of the wild plants."
