The dazz festival delights for the tenth time with jazz diversity in Darmstadt
Pooling resources, showcasing diversity, and giving space to different voices – this self-image also shaped the 10th edition of dazz – Jazz Winter Darmstadt . Organized by Centralstation , the Bessunger Knabenschule cultural center , and the Darmstadt Jazz Institute, the festival once again proved to be a resounding success January 9th to 18th
The organizers counted more than 1,500 visitors 31 events across 13 venues . Particularly noteworthy was the participation of numerous small and very small venues alongside established ones, including IL SALONE, the Kulturclub Sumpf, Nine's, and the STAGE in Bessungen. Many concerts were sold out.
The joint appearance at the festival created noticeable synergy effects. "Many of the guests were here for the first time," reports Christian Jung from the Künstlerkeller (artists' cellar) in the castle. The coordinated communication led people to venues they had previously hardly noticed. The conclusion was similarly positive at the Jazzclub Darmstadt, which hosted two events in the festival program. The Kulturclub Sumpf (Sumpf Cultural Club) was also well-attended for the Engel Trio concert – with an audience that clearly transcended musical boundaries.
At the Jazz Institute Darmstadt, where the dazz Festival 2026 kicked off with the opening of the exhibition "Voices of Change ," concerts by the Jazz Support Association and a sold-out performance by the Polish group Rebirth place. The festival concluded with a much-applauded concert by the Bene Aperdannier Trio .
In addition to the aforementioned venues, the Agora am Ostbahnhof, the HoffART Theater, the Rex arthouse cinema, and the Sunny Side Swing dance studio, among others, participated in the festival. With the positive feedback behind them, the participating organizations are already looking ahead: the next edition of dazz – Jazz Winter Darmstadt is planned for January 8–17, 2027 .
