City of Darmstadt leads procedures for reversal of Aldi development.
The magistrate of the science city of Darmstadt initiated the procedure for the cancellation of the project -related development plan A 43 in its meeting on Wednesday (May 7th). This affected the property at Frankfurter Landstrasse 171 to 173, where a new Aldi branch was originally supposed to be built. However, the food company had withdrawn the project.
"The project came across resistance in large parts of the Arheilger citizens," said Mayor Hanno Benz. "After Aldi decided not to pursue the project further, the contractually agreed deadlines are obsolete. The city is therefore obliged to initiate the termination procedure."
A transparently designed process of participation is accompanied by the decision on the termination procedure, which the city council decides on June 24th. "Together with the citizens, we want to work out how the freely exposed area should be used in the future," continued Benz. At the same time, he emphasized that the city would continue to work with Aldi in the future.
City planning director Michael Kolmer added: "With the formal cancellation, we create clarity for everyone involved. Urban development needs reliable framework conditions - we are now implementing this."
The documents for the cancellation - including the reason and the previous development plan - will be published on the website of the city planning office for at least 30 days after the public announcement. Insight is also possible in the city planning office at Mina-Rees-Straße 12.
After the procedure has been completed, the formerly valid development plans A 7.1 ("on the riding arena") and A 7.2 ("Around the Little Bridge Road") will get legal force again.
