Work will start on March 25th and last approximately three weeks
Darmstadt will continue the reconstruction of Dieburger Straße starting March 25, 2026. The affected section is between Wolfskehlstraße and the outbound lane. The construction work is expected to last approximately three weeks.
Approximately 45 additional parking spaces are planned
As part of the reorganization, the current staggered lane layout will be abandoned. Instead, parallel parking will be permitted along the entire north side of the street.
This will create approximately 45 additional parking spaces . However, there may be a temporary reduction in the number of parking spaces available during the necessary demarcation work.
Wider and more visible cycle lanes
The roadway will have a consistent width of 4.50 meters. This will allow the cycle lanes to be widened
Between 1.65 and 1.90 meters wide, narrowing
to 1.50 meters at a narrow point.
To increase safety, the cycle lanes will be marked in red throughout and separated from the roadway by hatched areas and bollards. This should also contribute to a reduction in the speed of car traffic.
Project for greater road safety
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey sees the measure as an important step towards better coexistence in traffic. The aim is to reconcile different interests in the road space and improve both safety and order.
Preliminary work already completed
Initial road marking work was carried out in adjacent streets back in December. Parking regulations were also adjusted in the area of the Schumannstraße intersection.
