Volunteers support elderly people every Thursday at the Georg-August-Zinn-Haus.
Griesheim. Many everyday tasks now take place online – from doctor's appointments to communicating with family. To ensure that older people can navigate the digital world safely, the Griesheim Senior Citizens' Office a free digital consultation service . This service is aimed at anyone who needs support using a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
The digital consultation hour takes every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Georg-August-Zinn-Haus (Georg-Schüler-Platz 6–8) . No appointment is necessary. Volunteer helpers are on hand to offer advice and assistance – whether it's with questions about operating the device, using email, or setting up apps. Follow-up appointments can be arranged if further support is needed.
The helpfulness of the service is demonstrated by the example of Siglinde Koch-Bauer . During the digital consultation, she learned how to set up a mobile hotspot on her smartphone to connect her tablet. Due to a visual impairment, she uses the larger display to work more effectively online. "Now I can easily go online while on the go and remain independent," she reports with satisfaction.
With its digital consultation service, Griesheim Senior Citizens' Office makes an important contribution to digital inclusion. "The commitment of the volunteers ensures that older people experience modern technology as an enrichment and not as an obstacle," concluded the city administration.
