From May 1st, printed passport photos will no longer be accepted in Darmstadt
From May 1, 2025, only digital, biometric photographs may be used for new identity documents at the passport and identity card office of the City of Darmstadt, as well as at the registration offices in Arheilgen, Eberstadt, and Wixhausen. Printed photos will no longer be accepted.
The change is based on the updated Passport and Identity Card Ordinance , which aims to establish higher security standards for German identity documents. The goal is to guarantee the issuance of secure and tamper-proof identity documents.
Two ways to create the digital photo
- Photo studios : Citizens can still have their digital photos taken at a photo studio. It is important that the studio is connected to the certified cloud solution . The photo studios themselves can provide information about this.
- Directly on site : Alternatively, photographs can also be taken passport and identity card office €6 in addition to the respective ID card fee.
The photos are taken directly at the counter by trained staff – even photos of babies or toddlers can be taken easily. The photos are transmitted securely via a certified cloud service of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), in compliance with data protection regulations.
