Dialogue event on March 3rd and online participation launched
Darmstadt is pushing ahead with the digitalization of its city administration. A new digital strategy aims to fully digitize the administration by 2030. The goal is to make processes more efficient, strengthen citizen engagement, and position the city for the future.
Citizens can comment on the draft strategy online until Friday, March 13, 2026. In addition, the city invites the public to an information event at the Centralstation Darmstadt on Tuesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m.
Nine areas of action by 2030
The digital strategy is conceived as a comprehensive agenda for the use of digital technologies and the expansion of digital infrastructure. The concept comprises nine areas of action with 44 individual measures. These include, among other things, electronic records management, digital citizen services, and the use of digital twins in urban planning.
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasizes that digitalization is a necessary prerequisite for transparency, efficiency, and citizen engagement. Especially given tight budgets and the shortage of skilled workers in public administration, every use of resources must be organized in the best possible way.
Digital officer Holger Klötzner emphasizes that feedback from citizens plays an important role in further developing the strategic direction.
New governance model and citizen participation
At the heart of the strategy is a new management model for digitalization and IT projects. This includes centralized portfolio and program management, a new project management unit, and closer integration of organization, IT, and processes.
The digital strategy was developed by Digitalstadt Darmstadt GmbH with the participation of municipal offices and the city's economy.
The public consultation period runs until March 13, 2026. The draft can be viewed and commented on online. At the information event on March 3 at the Centralstation, there will also be an opportunity to speak directly with representatives of the city administration. Registration is not required.
Once the consultation process is complete, the strategy will be finalized and submitted to the city council for final approval.
