Revised statutes relieved participation - application now possible
Weiterstadt. The city of Weiterstadt is looking for committed people who want to actively work for the equality of people with disabilities . After a fundamental revision of the advisory board statute by the city council, the procedure for participating in the advisory board was significantly simplified. The aim is to enable more participation, accessibility and inclusion
The background of the reform was the small number of applications for the new term of office of the advisory board at the end of 2024. Instead of the previous election process, the city administration now creates a list of proposals with interested parties appoints the advisory board members .
Who can apply?
- People with an identified degree of disability
- Legal representatives of people with disabilities
- People without their own disabilities who get involved in inclusion
The work on the advisory board will be designed in the future: classic meetings are eliminated, instead there are regular jour fixe meetings with employees of the city administration. The goal is the early integration into measures to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities . Topics can be introduced from both sides.
New network strengthens the exchange
With the working group "Inclusion" in the Weiterstadt network works! An additional forum is created in which representatives of the advisory board, city factions and committed institutions can exchange ideas. The moderation is carried out by the office for diversity and participation together with the city's volunteer disability officer The first session is planned for the second half of 2025 .
