Revised statutes facilitate participation – applications now possible
Weiterstadt. The city of Weiterstadt is seeking committed individuals who wish to actively equality for people with disabilities . Following a fundamental revision of the advisory council's bylaws by the city council, the process for participation in the council has been significantly simplified. The goal is to enable greater participation, accessibility, and inclusion
The reform was prompted by the low number of applications for the advisory board's new term of office at the end of 2024. Instead of the previous election procedure, the city administration now compiles a list of interested parties appoints the advisory board members .
Who can apply?
- People with a legally recognized degree of disability
- Legal representatives of people with disabilities
- People without their own disability who are committed to inclusion.
The work of the advisory board will be more practically oriented in the future: Traditional meetings will be discontinued, and instead, regular informal meetings with city administration staff will take place. The aim is to involve the advisory board early in measures for implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities . Topics can be raised by both sides.
New network strengthens exchange
The "Inclusion" Weiterstadt WIRkt! network will create an additional forum for representatives of the advisory board, city council factions, and committed institutions to exchange ideas. The Office for Diversity and Participation, together with the volunteer disability officer . The first meeting is planned second half of 2025
