The district is investing 900,000 euros in modern operational technology for better response to extreme weather events
The Groß-Gerau district has comprehensively modernized its disaster relief fleet. A total of three all-terrain pickup trucks , one equipment vehicle , four motorcycles , and two drones acquired to improve response capabilities to future crises such as heavy rain, flooding, or wildfires . The investment totaled approximately €900,000 .
"These vehicles will make our district even safer," said District Administrator Thomas Will at the official handover ceremony at the Groß-Gerau District Training Center (KSZ) . The new vehicles enable rapid and flexible deployment – even in rough terrain. At the same time, the acquisition is a good example of efficient inter-municipal cooperation and the sensible use of the district levy.
Distribution across three cities
The emergency vehicles will be stationed in Groß-Gerau, Kelsterbach, and Mörfelden-Walldorf . Numerous representatives from the fire departments and aid organizations, as well as the mayors Jörg Rüddenklau (Groß-Gerau), Manfred Ockel (Kelsterbach) , and Thomas Winkler (Mörfelden-Walldorf), attended the handover ceremony.
New equipment vehicle and motorcycles for the pilot group
A particular highlight is the new "DEKON-V" equipment vehicle , which reinforces the decontamination unit for injured persons in CBRN hazard areas . It replaces an outdated vehicle belonging to the Malteser Hilfsdienst (Malteser Aid Service) in Rüsselsheim and will also be used for logistical tasks in the future.
four motorcycles were for the reconnaissance and guidance group . They enable rapid situational awareness and communication – especially in cases of radio problems , in forests , at flood dikes , or in traffic jams . The motorcycles are stationed in Bischofsheim (German Red Cross) and at the Groß-Gerau disaster relief unit .
The expansion of its disaster relief equipment is the county's response to the findings of the needs and development planning conducted by the disaster relief and emergency planning department. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events makes such preparedness ever more necessary.
