Carnival disco for over-60s instead of doughnut café
The town of Groß-Gerau has had to cancel the planned doughnut café, which was scheduled for February 23, 2025, in the town hall. The reason for this is that Groß-Gerau is currently operating under a provisional budget and is not permitted to make expenditures for discretionary services. Despite intensive efforts by the Carnival Association and the GGV municipal utilities, together with the responsible department head, Sabine Hoffmann, holding the event was not feasible.
"An event of this size is unfortunately not financially viable. We deeply regret this," said the municipal senior citizens' services.
Carnival disco as an alternative
But there is reason to rejoice: As a creative alternative, the city invites all senior citizens aged 60 and over to a cheerful carnival disco at Haus Raiss on Friday, February 28, 2025. From 2:11 p.m. to 5:11 p.m., guests can expect a colorful afternoon with good entertainment, delicious doughnuts, and a lively atmosphere. Imaginative costumes are expressly encouraged – the best costume will win a prize.
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau commented: “The cancellation of the doughnut café is very painful for us, but I am pleased that we can offer a creative and cost-covering alternative with the carnival disco. This solution shows how important it is to explore new avenues, even in difficult times.”
