New fence, lock and other upgrades for more safety and comfort
The dog park in Darmstadt's Bürgerpark is open to the public again after extensive renovations. Since mid-June, the area has been renovated, including a higher and more stable fence, a gate, and other improvements. This makes the approximately 5,400 square meter area significantly safer and more attractive for dogs and their owners.
Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kolmer expressed his satisfaction: "With the new fence, the gate, and other improvements, the dog park in the Bürgerpark is now safer and more comfortable for all users. I thank everyone involved for their commitment and patience during the construction phase."
Improvements for dogs and owners
The renovation was necessary because the original fence, built in 2020, was too low and unstable. Some dogs jumped over the fence, and damaged gates could no longer be repaired. In 2023 and 2024, the lawn had already been enhanced with benches, natural stone paving, gravel surfaces, and a sand pit.
In the current construction phase, the following have been implemented:
- higher fence with more stable gates
- new lock for additional security
- additional waste bin on the area
Further work is planned: the gates of the maintenance driveway will be lowered, another waste bin will be added, and the sandpit will be filled with fresh sand. A new tree will also be planted in the fall/winter.
