Record number of visitors at the dog swimming event in the Goddelau outdoor pool
Two- and four-legged friends enjoyed a fantastic time at the ninth annual dog swim in the Goddelau outdoor pool on Sunday, September 14th. To mark the end of the swimming season, the pool was transformed into a canine paradise – with 198 participating dogs , more than ever before. A total of 288 owners and spectators were also in attendance.
A dog paradise with action and relaxation
While some four-legged friends bravely jumped from the edge of the pool or the starting block, others preferred a raft or cautiously tested the steps of the non-swimmer's pool with a paw. Many romped across the sunbathing lawns or through the sand of the beach volleyball courts. The Gernsheim animal shelter and a pet food supplier were also present with stands – including dog ice cream.
Baths manager Uwe Tresch was delighted: “This time we had 198 dogs – more than ever before. It was also particularly nice that many regular guests came by with their season tickets to say goodbye to us.”
Mixed bathing season
As successful as the dog swimming event was, the actual bathing season proved difficult. With 24,705 visitors, there were around 3,500 fewer than the previous year. This was due to the changeable weather with cool nights and long periods of rain during the summer holidays. The busiest day was June 22nd with 1,120 visitors.
The town of Riedstadt, associated with Büchner, thanks the Goddelau open-air swimming pool association for their tremendous efforts. The team is currently preparing the pool for winter – next year the season will once again conclude with the popular dog swimming event.
