The district town and the organic market Terra Verde are setting an example for social commitment
As part of the "50 Years Together for a Better World" campaign, the town of Groß-Gerau, together with the organic supermarket Terra Verde, presented a donation check for €2,000 to the Groß-Gerau Hospice Foundation. The money was won through the BioMarkt photo challenge, which was launched to celebrate the anniversary of the BioMarkt network.
“We are delighted to be able to make a valuable contribution to the Groß-Gerau Hospice Foundation with this donation,” emphasizes Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau. “The planned hospice will be a place that makes life worth living until the very end, alleviates fears, and provides strength. As the district capital, we wholeheartedly support this important project.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025
The Groß-Gerau Hospice Foundation is planning to build an inpatient hospice with twelve guest rooms and four day-care places – a concept unique in the region. The building application is to be submitted shortly, with construction planned to begin later this year. The construction period is expected to be at least 18 months. The hospice will be built on the site of the former Allianz insurance company Diehl, which will be demolished before construction begins.
The initiative for the hospice began in 2021. Thanks to broad support in the Groß-Gerau district, the project was able to move forward. Starting in 2025, all 14 municipalities in the district will contribute an annual fee of €1 per resident to the financing. "This social project is of great importance to the entire population. Hospice care is an essential public service," explains Petra Boulannouar, Chair of the Board of the Groß-Gerau Hospice Foundation.
The Terra Verde organic market, a fixture in Groß-Gerau's town center since 2007, regularly supports regional and social projects. Store manager Angelika Kocak is delighted that the anniversary campaign will support a local project close to her heart: "For us, sustainability means not only ecological responsibility but also social commitment. With this donation, we want to give something back together with our customers."
This fundraising campaign demonstrates once again how community engagement can contribute to a better world – be it through sustainable nutrition or by supporting social projects in the region.
Third Star Run in September
The annual charity run to the Groß-Gerau market square, organized by the hospice foundation, will take place again in 2025. This third charity run will be held on September 7th. All runners are warmly invited to participate. The motto is: "Running together and doing good." A festival with food, drinks, music, and entertainment awaits participants in the market square.
