Thomas Will appeals to the Federal Government: "Stop talking, start doing"
As the Groß-Gerau district administration reports, District Administrator Thomas Will decisive action from the federal government and Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder Dornheim bypass . For over five decades, the people of Dornheim have suffered from heavy through traffic – despite numerous efforts by local politicians and a dedicated citizens' initiative.
Project approved – but stopped
The route of the planned bypass is already visible: The topsoil west of Dornheim has been removed, investigations have been carried out, the project is approved and ready for construction . But then came the setback: News arrived from Berlin that there no funding for the project.
“This is unthinkable,” said Will, who has since been active at various political levels to save the project. He learned from the Federal Ministry of Transport that all new construction projects for federal highways are currently halted – funds are only sufficient for renovations.
Hope through new budget decision
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the coalition committee in Berlin passed a new resolution: three billion euros are to be made available to the Federal Minister of Transport. "Normally, I put a question mark on statements made by Markus Söder – but this time, an exclamation mark," said Will, referring to Söder's announcement that this would allow all projects ready for construction to be implemented.
Whether this promise will actually hold up is currently being examined by the district administrator in the transport working group in Berlin . At the same time, the district is considering an unusual solution:
"I'm having it investigated whether the district pre-finance the required 30 million euros and advance the funds to the federal government," Will explains. "This way, the project could begin, while the federal government would repay the money later. This might still save Dornheim – if Markus Söder isn't mistaken."
