A musical dream journey for Hans Erich Dotter's 106th birthday
The 74th Dotter Concert will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026 promising a special musical evening in the Ernst-Ludwig-Saal "And the sun always rises again!" , Horst Maria Merz and Antje Rietz will take the audience on an emotional and entertaining journey through 20th-century music history – in celebration of Hans Erich Dotter's 106th birthday.
A journey through decades and musical styles
The production begins with a chance encounter at the Port of Hamburg: Two people meet by chance, and 25 years later, a very special cruise begins for them – not across the seas, but through the decades of music. The journey leads them to great role models and unforgettable songs that have shaped generations.
The program includes works by Georg Kreisler , whose highly virtuosic operatic boogie can be experienced alongside the chansons of Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf , which evoke the French zest for life. Italian timbres are Caterina Valente and Adriano Celentano , while a spirited medley transports the audience to the 1920s – with echoes of the art world surrounding Otto Dix and Anita Berber .
Reflective tones resonate with Elton John's " Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," complemented by the striking lyrics of Hildegard Knef . Finally, the hopeful outlook is provided by the title song by Udo Jürgens : "And the sun rises again and again."
