Reconstruction on Braunshardter Weg increases safety for pedestrians
The railway underpass at Braunshardter Weg in Weiterstadt was with new barriers June 26, 2025. The aim of the measure is, in particular, traffic safety for pedestrians and to reduce potential conflicts with cyclists.
Results of the 2024 Cycling Survey
The installation dates back to the 2024 cycling exhibition , where representatives of the Darmstadt-Dieburg district , the state police , the city of Weiterstadt and other stakeholders – including the ADFC – assessed the traffic situation and suggested improvements.
The new arrangement of the barriers better regulates the crossing of the underpass, so that particularly vulnerable road users such as pedestrians are more effectively protected.
Mayor Ralf Möller explains:
“With this implementation, we are responding to the desire for greater safety in the street space and ensuring that pedestrians in particular are better protected.”
The construction yard implemented the measure as planned
The project was implemented by the municipal building department . The measure was planned after joint consultation with all parties involved and decided upon based on an on-site assessment of the traffic flow.
