Garbage cans as percussion instruments – performance at the summer concert on June 4th in the Orangery
The municipal services department (EAD) of the city of Darmstadt donated waste bins to the percussion group at the Viktoria School. The fifth and sixth grade students had contacted the EAD directly to ask if bins could be provided as drumming instruments – and they were successful.
In music class, the students brainstormed which everyday objects would be suitable for drumming. They chose trash cans. The percussion group has since completed several practice sessions with these unusual instruments.
The results can be heard on Wednesday, June 4th, at the Victoria School's summer concert in the Orangery. Various ensembles will perform there starting at 6 p.m., including choirs, percussion, string and wind groups, the orchestra, and a big band.
