Cooperation with Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences – focus on civil and environmental engineering
Riedstadt's municipal utilities are expanding their training program and will offer a dual study program October 1, 2025. Students can study either civil engineering or environmental engineering . The program is aimed at applicants with a university entrance qualification and an interest in technology, the environment, and sustainability.
During the lecture period, studies take place primarily at the university – with one fixed practical day per week at the municipal utilities. During the semester break, practical training is completed full-time. The program includes a monthly stipend and coverage of tuition fees.
Sustainability and practical relevance are the focus
Riedstadt Municipal Utilities, as a municipal enterprise, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of approximately 120 kilometers of sewer lines and the Riedstadt central wastewater treatment plant. Its activities include the planning, construction, and monitoring of facilities, as well as consulting and permitting for private wastewater systems. As an EMAS-certified company, the municipal utilities place particular emphasis on sustainability and climate-resilient infrastructure .
“We offer a practical course of study in which we pass on our expertise from real projects – from the conception and construction to the maintenance of sewers and wastewater treatment plants,” emphasizes Saskia Kirsch, head of the municipal utilities.

general university entrance qualification or a comparable qualification is required for application . Furthermore, an interest in STEM subjects , teamwork skills, and initiative are expected.
