Wedding tower and residence lock will be symbolically darkened on March 22nd
The science city of Darmstadt is calling up citizens, companies, institutions and associations to participate in the International Earth Hour 2025. On Saturday, March 22nd, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the lights are to be switched off as a sign of climate protection.
Climate protection director Michael Kolmer emphasizes the symbolic power of this action:
"The Earth Hour is a worldwide signal of solidarity. By turning off the light for an hour, we set a common sign for our planet. It is about making climate protection visible and working together for the future of our living space."
Darmstadt participates with landmarks
As in previous years, the city will the light at the wedding tower on the Mathildenhöhe and - in cooperation with the TU Darmstadt - at the residence lock for sixty minutes. Darmstadt is involved in the list of international cities that symbolically darken their landmarks. The Brandenburg Gate in Berlin , the Big Ben in London and the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro also remain unlit.
Motto: "Voice.
The Earth Hour is under the motto "Light from. Voice. For a living planet" and is celebrated on all continents in 192 countries. Last year, around 560 cities and municipalities in the campaign in Germany alone.
