Traffic jams are likely, especially on travel days at the end of March and around Easter
With the start of the Easter holidays, the German Federal Highway Company (Autobahn GmbH des Bundes) expects a significant increase in traffic on German highways in the coming weeks. For many families, the holidays mark the first major travel period of the year.

First wave of travel already in March
The first smaller wave of travel will start with the beginning of the school holidays in Bremen and Lower Saxony on March 20th and 21st, 2026 .
Significantly heavier traffic is expected when the Easter holidays begin simultaneously in nine German states March 30th . Friday, March 27th, and Saturday, March 28th, are considered particularly likely to be congested.
High traffic density around Easter
