Autobahn GmbH warns of increased traffic on German motorways
With the start of the Easter holidays, the travel season begins for many families - and thus also a tense traffic situation on the highways. Autobahn GmbH of the federal government expects heavy travel around the Easter holidays, especially on the main travel routes in north-south and east-west direction.
These days are considered to be particularly stammering
- Friday, April 4th to Sunday, April 6th: Slightly increased holiday traffic at the beginning of the first federal state holidays
- Saturday, April 12th: Strong traffic through the start of the holiday in the most populous countries
- Maundy Thursday, April 17th: Highest stugging - travel traffic meets rush hour traffic
- Easter Monday, April 21st: Dense volume of traffic by returning from Easter vacation
- Friday, 25th to Saturday, April 26th: Return travel traffic to the end of the holiday in many regions
Autobahn GmbH recommends that travel times to be put outside of these peak times as possible and to plan enough breaks on longer journeys. Especially in metropolitan areas such as the Rhine-Main area, around Frankfurt, Cologne and Munich , longer delays can be expected.
Tips for a relaxed journey
- Plan early on departure times and observe traffic forecasts
- Check alternative routes and use navigation services
- Take sufficient breaks in traffic jams or delays
- Hold drinks, snacks and entertainment for children
