Social infrastructure and park should be preserved
The SPD Eberstadt advocates for the swift development of the former hospital grounds into a vibrant neighborhood. This was emphasized by Bijan Kaffenberger, the SPD's lead candidate in Darmstadt and party chairman, during a panel discussion hosted by the Darmstädter Echo newspaper.
Kaffenberger referred to the designs by students from the universities of Hildesheim and Holzminden, who presented their ideas for the development of the area at the House of Diversity in Eberstadt at the end of November. The collaboration with the university stems from an initiative of the Eberstadt FDP and SPD.
Consider the medical care center
According to the SPD, the social infrastructure should be considered from the outset in the development of the hospital grounds. This includes, among other things, a medical care center. Furthermore, the development should not be geared towards maximum densification, but rather towards a qualitative improvement of the neighborhood. Kaffenberger also believes the construction of terraced houses is conceivable.
Christina Brahm, chairwoman of the SPD Eberstadt, described the area as a great opportunity for the district. The SPD is committed to a mixed residential area with small and medium-sized apartment buildings as well as terraced houses. Historic buildings and the existing trees are to be preserved.
Keep the park publicly accessible
There is agreement that the park on the site should be preserved and made accessible to everyone. In addition to housing and medical facilities, the establishment of commercial enterprises should also be examined and incorporated into the planning process at an early stage.
According to the SPD, past mistakes must be avoided in the development. Simply focusing on building as many apartments as possible without accompanying infrastructure is counterproductive. The goal is to transform the former hospital grounds from a "lost place" into a vibrant neighborhood for everyone.
