Virtual reconstruction commemorates the destroyed church
Darmstadt-Eberstadt. 110th anniversary former Eberstadt Synagogue will be commemorated memorial event with a festive program take place, during which a 3D model of the destroyed synagogue will be symbolically presented to the Eberstadt community. The event begins at 5 p.m. in the Ernst-Ludwig-Saal .
The synagogue was consecrated in 1915 and was an expression of the deep roots of the Jewish community in Eberstadt. It was set on fire and destroyed during Kristallnacht November 9-10, 1938
Digital Memory: Virtual Reconstruction by TU Darmstadt
An interdisciplinary research project at TU Darmstadt, in collaboration with the Universities of Frankfurt and Mainz, has set itself the task of virtually reconstructing 13 destroyed synagogues physical model of the Eberstadt Synagogue using modern 3D printing technology . The cross-sectional model shows both the exterior architecture and the interior of the house of worship.
In the future, the model will publicly accessible in the renovated Eberstadt town hall . The commemorative project was made possible by the Dotter Foundation and donations from the community.
Festival program with music, speeches and research insights
The commemoration will be accompanied by traditional Jewish music and compositions by Jewish artists. Speakers will include:
- Dr. Felix Klein , Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and the Fight against Antisemitism
- Daniel Neumann , Director of the State Association of Jewish Communities in Hesse
- Mayor Hanno Benz
- District Administrator Ludwig Achenbach
Dr. Marc Grellert from TU Darmstadt will provide a scientific insight into the virtual reconstruction of the synagogue . The musical program will be performed by, among others, the Diplomatic String Quartet Berlin , Roman Kuperschmidt , Georgi Mundrov , Hagit Halaf , Don Hein and Alik Texler .
