Commemoration of the victims of National Socialism on January 25th
To commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, an ecumenical service will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at St. Paul's Church in Darmstadt . It will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Niebergallweg 20 in Darmstadt .
The Darmstadt Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation , the Evangelical Paulus Parish of Darmstadt , and the City-South Neighborhood Association jointly invite you to the service. The event coincides with Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, which commemorates the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp in 1945. This day has been a national day of remembrance in Germany since 1996 and International Holocaust Remembrance Day since 2005.
Sermon, liturgy and music
The sermon will be given by Annette Wiesheu , Director of Studies at the Academy of the Diocese of Mainz in Darmstadt. The liturgy will be led by Pastor Emeritus Ulrike Schmidt-Hesse , Protestant Chair of the GCJZ Darmstadt, and Bernd Lülsdorf , Catholic Chair of the GCJZ, together with representatives of the congregation. Lukas Euler responsible for the music.
A church café is planned after the service.
Remembrance as a societal task
The service will commemorate the Nazi genocide of Jews, Sinti, and Roma. It will also draw attention to the persecution of other minorities and political opponents. Against the backdrop of current forms of antisemitism, racism, and societal division, this commemoration aims to strengthen compassion and hope.
