The Women's Office brings together information, contact points and support services
The Women's Office of the City of Darmstadt has published an updated version of the brochure "Single Parents in Darmstadt – Information and Tips for Single-Parent Families ." The aim of this compilation is to provide single parents with a concise overview of contact points, counseling services, and support services in Darmstadt.
The brochure provides information on topics such as maintenance claims, social welfare regulations, childcare, child custody, employment, and balancing family and career. It also includes information on funding opportunities and networking services to address the diverse needs and challenges faced by single-parent families.

Strengthening equal participation opportunities for single-parent families
Mayor and Women's Affairs Officer Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the importance of the brochure: It aims to improve equal opportunities for single-parent families in Darmstadt. It offers sound guidance on key everyday issues and helps families navigate a complex system of benefits, rights, and services.
Single-parent families are often exposed to increased stress and a higher risk of poverty. Reconciling work and family life can lead to a longer period of dependency on public assistance, despite high motivation and good qualifications. Furthermore, reorganizing daily family life as a single parent presents a particular challenge.
Single parents as an integral part of urban society
Being or becoming a single parent is a social reality. In Darmstadt, single-parent households make up around 21 percent of the population, of which approximately 82 percent are headed by single mothers. Against this backdrop, the brochure serves as a guide, addressing both the everyday challenges and securing a stable livelihood.
