Reading and song recital for the exhibition “Burned In” on May 8th
The Kunsthalle Darmstadt invites you to a special event on Thursday, May 8th, at 7 pm as part of the current exhibition "Burned In" . The guest speaker will be Berlin-based cultural activist Ekkehard Maaß will offer insights into the oppositional art scene of the former GDR under the title "Art and Literature of the Underground in the GDR"
Maaß, born in 1951, founded a literary salon in his apartment in Prenzlauer Berg in the late 1970s – as a reaction to state repression against critical artists. His close relationship with the singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann brought him to the attention of the East German authorities early on. In his performance at the Kunsthalle, he will also perform songs by Biermann, among others.
The event is part of the accompanying program for the exhibition "Burned In," which explores traces and memories in art. Further information is available on the Kunsthalle website: www.kunsthalle-darmstadt.de .
